No May Meeting

Greetings All,

I hate to cancel yet another meeting this year, but due to an extremely tight work schedule this month and looming deadlines I am unable to host the BILUG meeting in May.  If someone else is interested in hosting the meeting, please drop me a line and I’ll gladly notify the mailing list.  The June meeting is likely to suffer a similar fate unless someone steps up to host that one as well.

The good news is that my schedule should clear out quite a bit beginning in July, and the meeting schedule for the second half of the year looks pretty straightforward.

April Meeting

Greetings Linux enthusiasts,

Our April meeting will be held on Sat Apr 26 at Subaru Telescope in Hilo.  This puts us just a couple of days after the Hardy Heron release and we’ll have a couple of laptops available with it for you to play with.  We’ll have a last go-around with the e-cycling, so bring anything you think may be of interest for swap or to give away.  I’ll try to arrange a drop off at the county e-cycling facility for any unclaimed stuff.

We’ll also have the usual industry buzz, round table discussion of all things open-source, CDs with the latest distros, help with your installation and troubleshooting, and etc.  It’s a bargain!

The usual time 1-5pm.  Pupus welcome and appreciated.  See ya there.

No March meeting

[A little late, but I thought I'd post this here for reference]

Due to busy a busy schedule this month I was not able to arrange a BILUG meeting. Let’s shoot for one in April. I still have some items left from the last meeting, and we can let anyone who missed have a last look over the items before they go to e-cycling.

February meeting

Greetings all,

The February BILUG meeting will be held Saturday, Feb 23 from 1pm-5pm at Subaru Telescope Base Facility conference room 104B.

This month will feature a swap-meet: bring your no longer desired computer books, old computers, working parts, etc.  Maybe someone has something you want and can swap, take or give away.  Mac and I will try to arrange transportation for stuff left over to the county electronic recycling.

Please bring a pupu to share, and note the usual caution about parking only in visitor stalls or on the street (you can drive up and unload under the overhang before parking).  We’ll also have the usual round table discussion of open-source news and events, and help with configuration and troubleshooting.  Should be fun–hope to see you there!

Jan 2008 meeting

Greetings and Happy New Year, fellow BILUGers!

We will resume our BILUG schedule with a meeting this weekend, Saturday, Jan 12, 1pm-5pm at Subaru Telescope Base Facility in the UHH research park (need directions?). I know we usually meet on the 3rd Sat, but this month that is a 3-day weekend and I thought folks might want to keep that unencumbered.

We have a treat of a demo for you this month. Not one, but two OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) units that I will bring in, along with my kids, to demonstrate the cool hardware, the interesting UI and the mesh networking. Of course we’ll have the usual tech banter and assistance.

Hope to see you there. Pupus are appreciated. As usual for this location, please do not park in the Subaru parking lot, except for the spaces marked “Visitor”, or out on the street in front. Knock loudly on the door if it is not open. The meeting is just inside to the right.

Due to the proximity of the holidays, we’ll cancel the BILUG meeting this month.  Our next meeting will be in January, 2008.

November 2007 meeting

Greetings Linux/OSS enthusiasts!

The November BILUG meeting will be held at Smithsonian Submillimeter Array Base Facility in the UH Hilo Research Park off of Komohana Ave in Hilo (need directions?).  The date is Sat, Nov. 17, the time is 1:00 pm and your host is Mac Cooper.  I apologize for the late notice. (Please note that is this is a change of location, if you visited the web site earlier.)

Join us for some discussion of the latest news and developments in the FOSS ecosystem,  help with hands-on installation and configuration help, some pupus, and a demo or two.  We will have Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon images available.  Come out and support your local LUG!  There is always something to learn at a BILUG meeting.

September 2007 meeting

Greetings all,

We will have our September BILUG meeting at Subaru Telescope Base Facility in the UH Hilo Research Park off of Komohana Ave in Hilo (need directions?). There will be a couple more photo-software related demos for you this month, along with any other demos members have to share. And of course, the usual discussion and configuration/troubleshooting/help.

Please join us from 1pm to 5pm and bring a pupu to share. Please follow the usual parking restrictions at the Subaru facility—meaning park only in the spots marked “Visitor” or on the street out front.

August 2007 meeting

Hi Folks,

A BILUG meeting is ON for this Saturday, Aug 25 from 1pm to 5pm at the Connections High School at the Nani Mau gardens. Your host will be David Christman. For those that are new to this venue, it is the two buildings to the far left as you enter the parking lot off of Makalika street. I apologize for the late notice.

We have a couple of demos lined up in addition to the usual roundtable/FOSS/industry discussion, a little helping hand for Connections school and whatever else we cook up that afternoon.

July 2007 meeting

Greetings Open-source Bretheren,

A BILUG meeting is on tap for this Saturday, July 21, from 1–5pm at Subaru Telescope Base Facility in the UH Hilo Research Park off of Komohana Ave in Hilo (need directions?). Please park on Aohoku street out front and NOT in Subaru’s parking lot. If the front door is locked, knock and someone will come and let you in.

We’ll have our FOSS news of late, round table discussion, demos, and the usual tinkering, tips and installation/configuration assistance. If you can, please bring a pupu to share.
